Visited Maypole fisheries today after a 70 mile drive. Chose the Maypole as on our last visit the food etc was superb. As we approached the restaurant/shop the heavens opened and it bucketed down so seeing the restaurant is closed Mondays we weren’t looking forward to eating outside in the rain. We ordered our food and the owner must have noticed ( or overheard our remarks ) our disappointment and asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant. Although it was closed without any prompting off us he straight away offered to open it for us and let us have a table and order drinks etc as he said he didn’t want us to have to eat outside in the rain. HOW FANTASTIC IS THAT??? We really did feel special and the friendliness was just out of the world….AS WAS THE FOOD. Cooked to perfection and served with a lovely smile from a lovely waitress who tended to our every need and was just smashing. I ordered a special fish only as I knew with the size of it I wouldn’t be able to eat anything else. I was right – it filled me up and tasted great, cooked just as I like it to be. My partner had standard meal – fish, chips with mushy peas and was full to bursting when she finished eating. Couldn’t manage a pudding afterwards – which is a pity as I’ll bet they also were 1st class. So TOP MARKS IN ALL RESPECTS to the Maypole and staff and can recommend eating there 100%.Show less
We have been coming to the Maypole for 20 years, but not so often recently since having moved out of Otley. However a visit to the restaurant tonight has not left us disappointed, Lee and team know their stuff and the quality is as fantastic as ever.
I can’t see how you could improve on these fish and chips, just the best.
Rhubarb crumble was very appealing, but after a massive haddock special, unfortunately no room!
Happy to see this place continue to do well and produce such a great food!
Just a quick email to thank you for our lovely lunch which we enjoyed today You were also kind enough to cook and wrap a haddock for my Grandmother. She’s 92 now and used to live in Otley. Her sister Gladys Scatchard used to work in your fish shop during the 1960s. When I asked if she wanted anything bringing from Otley she replied “a haddock.
Having travelled around the world and sampled fish & chips in many chip shops I can happily say that none compare to the Maypole. The clean shop and friendly waiting staff add that winning touch to consistently excellent fish & chips. The owner is also a very friendly and interesting character who often gets involved in local events bringing that little bit of extra character to the place. A real local gem definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and feeling hungry.
“Possibly almost the best Fish & Chips close to Otley”
As a local Fish & Chip shop in Otley it also has an excellent Restaurant. The whole establishment is extremeley clean and exceptionally well presented together with being very well run. As for the Fish & Chips, well they certainly feature at the top of my preference list. It’s some years since I ate in the Restaurant but I can certainly say the produce from the take away is excellent, good portions and very fresh and tasty – I usually have some “scraps” with my order which makes for an excellent experience. The staff are all very well organised and efficient offering excellent service and pleasant experience. The whole range of products on offer is very comprehensive, something for everybody!!
I should just finish by saying that this is my favorite local F&C shop and I visit perhaps twice a month.
If you want excellent quality fish and chips then look no further. With a warm welcome from the very affable team and a cosy restaurant to enjoy your meal combined with great value for money it is streets ahead!
